wish wish wish

holiday wishes

My family doesn't really celebrate the holidays that much. I may not be expecting any gifts this year, but that doesn't stop me from wanting a few (or a lot) of things. Some items are just part of my winter essentials (I don't know when I started to have "essentials") and others I wish were part of my life. Ryan Gosling is still on my wish list. He will ALWAYS be on my wish list.

1| After this long semester I am ready for some recreational reading. 1Q84 by Haruki Murakami and The Marriage Plot by Jeffrey Eugenides are at the top of my list. I'm hoping that I'll read at least five books this winter break.
2| I really don't need anymore lipstick. Last time I counted I was at 9 different tubes of lipstick. What I really want to do is use more of what I already have. Oh, and I wouldn't mind trying out some purple lipstick.
3| I want cigarette pants. They fall into my love for 60s fashion, help me with my new found love in pants, and look good in sweaters.
4| I need to keep my lips smooth.
5| I already have a grey pullover, which I wear almost everyday. This is just a reminder of how great it is.
6| Asos really needs to stop making me fall in love with their clothes. I'm almost glad that they don't have a location States side, otherwise I'd be in debt. This dress with the peter pan collar, short length, and wonderful burnt red color is calling me. I'm resisting that call for now.
7| Berets and scarves are my best friends right now. My hair has been looking a mess and I thank my collection, okay I only have three, of berets for hiding that. Scarves keep me warm.
8| I am forever on the look out for simple black flats. I don't like embellishments on black flats. I just want them to be practical like this pair from Repetto. I also want them to be affordable unlike this pair from Repetto. I know I just said I don't want embellishments on black flats, but these cat flats are TOOGOOD. I guess I mean embellishments such as rhinestones, flowers, and bows. These shoes by Charlotte Olympia are awesome. I don't know what else to say.
9| I need an amplifier for my record player. I want to listen to my records and sing along. I need some Miriam Makeba in my vinyl life.
10| I want Ryan Gosling. I just do and I am not ashamed.

kind of a big deal

I'm wearing pants. Yeah, I know. PANTS. As of late I've been wearing shorts as a means of slowly getting back into the groove of wearing something other than dresses or skirts. Now I've made my way to wearing pants. I picked this pair up from Super Thrift in the valley. That place has been the source for a number of my favorite pieces. It may be in an incredibly boring part of the valley, but the selection there is amazing and I don't mind the short drive.

summer hat

This July I do not pledge allegiance to the flag. Instead I pledge to wearing hats more often. Well, this hat in particular. This Goodwill find spent it's first year in my possession sitting atop a shelf. Far from sight and definitely from mind, I went almost nine months without putting it into my outfit rotation. Too summery for the spring and too broad for anyone to see around my head should they unfortunately sit behind me in class.

This hat was meant for summer. It was meant to keep the sun out of my eyes and help me from sweating myself to death. I put this hat to it's task and went to the park to read. While it helped to shield the sun away from my eyes it certainly didn't do much to protect the rest of my body from the sun. At an unbearable 90 degrees I decided to stop reading outside and headed home. I'll try and wear this hat more often though because I like it too much to let it spend another dreadful nine months on a shelf.

i love clothes

This post may become quite photo heavy. My summer break thus far has been punctuated by signing my first lease, turning 21, going to Las Vegas, and hitting Malibu for the first but not last time for the summer. With all these events I have photos to bear their evidence of happening. Well, at least outfits worn while these things happened.

For my 21st birthday I decided to have a 1960s themed party. I could've gone more the way of Mad Men and worn something refined and tailored. An outfit that would surely meet the sartorial standards of  Mad Men stylist Janie Bryant. While I love the show for all its finely crafted story lines and realistic takes on serious issues, I'm not too into wearing the type of fashion featured on the show.

My wardrobe is more on the mod side of the 60s. I wear short dresses, fawn over peter pan collars, and I'm quite the sucker for great cat eyes.

I feel as if I've been rambling for too long so here are a couple of photos from my birthday.

Dress - Vintage, Someone Else's Vintage
Bow - Vintage, Lemon Frog

Although this photo is really blurry, I really do prefer it over the other photos that better showcase the dress. For the purpose of documenting my dress, here's an unflattering full length photo

One thing that I'm for certain of is the fact that Vegas is a strange place. That may be less of a fact and more of a personal view. That is not to say that I didn't enjoy myself. I just can't honestly believe that there is a city devoted to drinking, sex, and general debauchery.

Skirt - H&M

The next set of outfits were taken at my new home. I'm still trying to figure out where the best spot is to take outfit photos. This can be seen from the different angles used in each set of outfit photos.

I went to the beach today. That means this is a beach outfit. Bitch outfit?

Shirt - Urban Outfitters
Bathing Suit - Vintage; Peachy Pipes on Etsy
Skirt - Old Navy
Head scarf - Vintage; American Vintage
Sunglasses - Thrifted; Goodwill

A series of photos that track undressing? Sure, why not? All for the sake of showing off my romper/bathing suit.

After taking a shower I felt as if I needed to wear something that didn't use too many pieces that I love dearly. It's not uncommon for people to save outfits so certain pieces will get more air time, so to speak, so I settled on this dress. I bought it about a year or so ago and have all but lost interest in it. I'm hoping that I can alter it somehow and have it be a piece that I actually want to wear and not wear out of necessity.

I have spent the better part of my night trying to work on my summer research and failing. I've been listening to Childish Gambino and perusing fashion blogs. Childish Gambino, a.k.a. Donald Glover, practically rapped all my thoughts on clothing through this song:

I love Donald Glover
